We Surf Wild
The Andaman Islands are a completely different side of India. Forget the urban density — here you'll find pristine tropical islands, turquoise water, and wild jungle teeming with wildlife you won't find anywhere else. The relentless energy of Mumbai or Delhi gives way to total quiet and a sense of being at the edge of the world. And yet, the heart of India remains: authentic food, real spices, and hospitality that comes straight from the heart. Our local partners will take care of everything you need throughout the journey.
The Andaman Archipelago comprises hundreds of islands scattered across the Indian Ocean, thousands of kilometres from the subcontinent — geographically, they sit closer to Thailand than to India. The capital, Port Blair, was once a British colonial base and today serves as the gateway to the islands, accessible via the only airport with domestic flights primarily from Chennai and Kolkata. Most of the population today are migrants from mainland India, though ancient indigenous tribes also inhabit the more isolated islands — such as North Sentinel and Little Andaman — communities that have chosen to cut themselves off entirely from the modern world.
For most nights on the trip we stay at Ieshika Resort — the only accommodation available on Little Andaman Island. The resort is run by Ieshika, a key figure in our journey: he handles a large part of the complex logistics around the boat transfers, he's a well-known and trusted presence in the local community, and someone you can rely on completely.
The facilities are simple and unpretentious: air-conditioned rooms, a double bed, and hot water. The simplicity doesn't get in the way. The hospitality is genuinely warm, coffee and Indian chai are available throughout the day, and meals are freshly made around locally caught fish and seafood that goes straight from the sea to your plate.
Artemis is the largest and best-equipped boat in Andaman — a 36-foot vessel originally built for high-end private fishing charters. She's skippered by an experienced local captain with deep sea knowledge, alongside a crewmember from Andaman.
The rear deck and air-conditioned cabin provide comfortable conditions during the crossings. Artemis is not a luxury yacht, and it's important to come with calibrated expectations. Twin powerful Yamaha engines allow her to move fast between islands and reach surf spots that other boats simply can't get to.
In Andaman, there's far more hidden than meets the eye. Most spots are reef point breaks accessible only by boat — empty lineups and a genuine sense of discovery. Among the relatively well-known spots:
What we've found so far is just the tip of the iceberg — Andaman is far from reaching its full potential. That's why we bring a local surfer on some expeditions who knows every beach and reef up close, so together we can find spots that have never been ridden before.
